GameFi: A new platform listing hundreds of Play-to-Earn (P2E) blockchain games has fired up. Users can explore ratings, twitch streams, feature write-ups, daily earnings potential, and reviews from fellow gamers.

Rainmaker Games is calling the platform a “specialized discovery service for play-to-earn blockchain games.” They say that the beta launch connects a waiting list of over 1 million gamers to 150 blockchain games.

The platform has attracted investors such as Animoca Brands, CoinFund, Polygon Studios, and Alameda Research. The Rainmaker Discovery platform also gives game publishers a way to speak to gamers in the space.

Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian says that monetized gaming is tipped to be the trend of the future. There are now 398 active blockchain games, according to DappRadar. To qualify, the games have to have at least one active wallet in the past 24 hours within the game. The 2022 figure is a 92% increase from a year ago.

Millions of gamers are interested in the earning potential of P2E. But it can be hard to work out what each new game offers.

Rainmaker say that the platform will initially track over 150 trusted blockchain games. “This includes Axie Infinity, Splinterlands, Thetan Arena, Cyball, League of Kingdoms. It will enable gamers to find games based on such categories as top-rated, most popular, free-to-play, highest yield, blockchain protocol, etc.”

Statista recently released a survey which found that 6 out of 10 gamers were open to P2E  practices to earn rewards in the metaverse.

Differentiating games

Rainmaker say that until now, gamers had trouble differentiating the offerings in the blockchain gaming space. “Information has often been hard to come by and is often highly curated by the game publishers themselves. Each game will be rated and reviewed through the service by a team of 50 players and 2000 guild members, providing much-needed gaming data that is essential for informing newcomers and is currently missing from the growing blockchain industry.”

Twitch, Reddit, and Twitter discussions will be integrated into the games’ information pages. Rainmaker say that the games listed will be legitimate and community-approved.

Will Deane is the CEO, and Co-founder of Rainmaker Games. “With our Beta launch, Rainmaker is now the premiere discovery platform for gamers to access information about all the best blockchains games. We believe the ability to discover new and exciting titles and an overall great UX is the key to bringing P2E games to the mainstream gaming community. Rainmaker Games is poised to have a ubiquitous, Netflix of games-type influence.”

No easy task

Deane also said that the build wasn’t easy. “Bringing the world of blockchain gaming together from across different chains, platforms, and ecosystems into one sleek, user-friendly interface is no small task. Our internal team of designers and engineers are gamers and blockchain enthusiasts who understand how to prioritize the user experience for both groups and know what information gamers want to know before investing their time and money into the blockchain gaming space.”

A ‘Netflix of Games’ sounds good, but will it live up to the promise? Let’s keep an eye on this one.
