Move-to-earn game Stepn announced the launch of a collaborative NFT collection with titan sportswear brand Adidas on Monday, with plans to bring Solana NFT sneakers from the brand into the fitness-focused game.
The Stepn x Adidas Genesis Sneakers collection is the first in a series of “co-branded activities” between the two companies. In a year-long partnership, the collaboration will see more NFTs dropped as well as physical items.
“This collaboration between Stepn and Adidas underscores how powerful it is when you can move-and-earn in both the virtual and real world simultaneously,” Stepn CEO Shiti Manghani said in a release. “That such a physical and digital—or ‘phygital’—partnership between the most widely used lifestyle app and a global brand like Adidas are now a reality indicates the direction lifestyle rewards are going.”
Sneakers will be priced at 10,000 GMT (Stepn’s native token), which is approximately $2,500 worth at the time of writing, according to pricing data from CoinGecko.
Available on Stepn creator FSL’s NFT marketplace MOOAR, the first 200 Genesis Sneaker NFTs will be dropped on Wednesday, April 17, with allowlist spot requirements being detailed in a post on Twitter (aka X) by Stepn’s official account.
Another 790 NFTs will be released via a public raffle sale from April 18-21, with winners being drawn every 24 hours. The final 10 NFTs will be used for marketing purposes, a representative told Decrypt’s GG.
Stepn is a move-to-earn FitTech app which requires a virtual sneaker NFT to begin earning crypto rewards through walking, jogging, or running.
The amount a user can earn on the app is based on their sneaker’s “energy” level. The lower your energy level, the fewer minutes you can run and earn. Every unit of energy is equal to five minutes of running time, with bonus energy being given for its quality level—legendary sneakers give +4 energy, for example.
There are currently no reports on what energy level the Stepn x Adidas Genesis Sneakers will have. So, runners will have to wait and see how much of a competitive advantage they give.
The announcement follows Stepn’s $30 million airdrop campaign that concluded last week, in which players were given airdrop points which were redeemable 1:1 for Stepn’s native GMT token. Over 100 million airdrop points were distributed to badge and Genesis NFT holders.
